Efficient working with point clouds
In cooperation with Scalypso, a plug-in was developed for processing point clouds in Allplan. With the converter included in the plug-in, you can import scan data in various formats, both from the manufacturer-neutral ASTM E57 format and from the manufacturer-specific formats of Faro, Leica, Riegl, Topcon, Trimble and Zoller+Fröhlich as well as from ASCII formats. You can then transfer selected 3D points to your Allplan project. For more intensive use, there is an extended version tailored to individual requirements. This makes it possible, for example, to automatically calculate horizontal sections from which precise floor plans or building models can be generated in a time-saving manner.
Import of UTM coordinates
Surveying offices, authorities and construction companies are increasingly working with UTM coordinates. Due to different scaling these are incompatible with AEC software. Until now, planners had to rely on external service providers for data exchange. With the new import functions in Allplan 2020, you can now perform this coordinate transformation yourself.
Further development of interfaces
The IFC interface is continuously being further developed. The full support of NURBS bodies during import has improved the exchange of free-form geometry. In addition, different attributes can be assigned correctly during import and export. The SketchUp interface now supports the 2018 format, the CPIXML export has been updated to version 1.7.
In order to better support US standard projects, Allplan 2020 has made extensive additions specifically in the area of reinforcement: There are now standardized and user-defined bar shapes, the reinforcement legends have been adapted and interfaces created for the reinforcement manufacturers aSa and Soulé. In addition, thread bar couplers of the manufacturer HRC are supported.
Always correct values with associative dimensioning
With Allplan 2020 you always keep your dimensioning up to date. Linear and curved dimension lines remain connected to the objects. When you make a change, the dimensioning automatically adjusts itself.
Improvements in handling attributes
In order to make the handling of attributes even more comfortable and consistent, numerous extensions and improvements have been made to attribute management. Among other things, the attributes can now also be exported as formatted Excel files. In addition, the object palette has been extended so that objects can now be filtered by attribute. The filtered objects can be highlighted in color for better visual control. The model itself can be displayed transparently. In this way, incorrectly assigned attributes can be identified more quickly.
With the Real Time Renderer in Allplan 2020, you can now define different light temperatures. You can use tone mapping to achieve a warmer, neutral or cold appearance. White balance corrects the color temperature of natural light sources such as sky and sun. And thanks to the two-point perspective, distortions can be eliminated in no time at all.
Visual Scripting - the alternative to programming
Visual Scripting is ideal for parametric modeling of complex shapes, creating frequently used custom objects, and automating workflows. Instead of learning a programming language, you simply visually arrange nodes and link them together. Compared to the Technical Preview, Allplan 2020 improves the user interface, introduces additional nodes, and adds more edited examples.
More flexibility when labeling grids
You can now label the grids in Allplan 2020 exactly as you need them. Labeling is done using a palette or directly in the model.
Great time savings due to offset planes
An offset plane is linked to another plane. When the reference plane is changed, the offset plane automatically adjusts itself and with all elements linked to it. This even works for several floors simultaneously.
Creation of columns optimized
With the optimized column tool, you can now create fillets and chamfers directly without having to define your own cross-section beforehand. In addition to saving time and ease of use, the subsequent adjustment of the columns has now also been simplified.
New Modeler for Steel Structures
You no longer need a separate steel solution to model simple steel structures without connections (LOD 300). Columns and beams can be created and modified using a modern user interface based on property palettes and handles.
New Features for international project work
With Allplan Engineering 2019 multiple country settings can be installed during setup or added afterwards and country settings can be chosen per project. Furthermore, new national standards for reinforcement detailing have been added for Algeria (DRT-BC2.41-CBA93) and South Africa (SANS 282) and right-to-left writing for Hebraic language is supported.
Multiple Enhancements within PythonParts
With Allplan Engineering 2019, existing PythonParts have been enhanced. For example, the stair now comes with additional handles. It also displays whether threshold values for step length, comfort and safety are observed. The reinforcement layout has also been further optimized. New PythonParts have been added, among others for the efficient reinforcement of door, window and slab openings.
Wide range of supporting systems for reinforcement
With Allplan Engineering 2019, Fortec rebar couplers and HALFEN HBS-05 screw connections have been added to the extensive list of supported systems. To handle situations when the coupler system to be used is not known yet, generic, manufacturer-neutral couplers have been introduced as well.
Steel profile library
Integration of Steel section library via Allplan Bimplus
To simplify the workflows when using steel profiles, with Allplan Engineering 2019 you can access the international Nemetschek catalogue for steel sections via Allplan Bimplus. They are available in Allplan including geometry and attributes. As the same catalogue is used across multiple Nemetschek products such as Frilo Statics or Scia Engineer this enables smooth data transfer between these products.
With Allplan Engineering 2019, a new grid with additional functionality is introduced. The user interface is based on palettes so that all properties can be defined and adjusted intuitively. Changes become immediately visible in the model. In addition, handles are offered when creating or modifying a grid.
Increase of user-defined roles in the Actionbar
The Actionbar in Allplan Engineering 2019 helps users to easily access the functionality required by their role (Architecture, Engineering, Environment, Drafting, Bridges). It’s also possible to customize the default Actionbar by adding, removing or rearranging functions. Now more than one user-defined role is supported and configuration becomes more flexible. Roles can be exported, either individually or all together and imported, on the same computer.
Enhancements of the IFC4 interface
IFC is the standard interface for openBIM projects. The latest release of the IFC4 brings further improvements, which are essential for BIM projects like the export of BaseQuantities. With Allplan Engineering 2019 the IFC4 import now also includes bar and mesh reinforcement. In addition, the user interface has been simplified. New options have been introduced, among others to split multilayered elements like walls and roofs into individual elements.
Better Overview with improved Object Palette
The Object Palette in Allplan Engineering 2019 allows inspection and change of a large number of objects efficiently. It’s now possible to sort objects according to attributes. Objects with missing, outdated or wrongly assigned attributes can be identified and revised easily, thereby ensuring high-quality building models. It’s also now possible to move objects via Drag&Drop, e.g. from one floor to another.
Optimized Properties Palette
The property palette in Allplan Engineering 2019 allows the management of settings for format, visualization and attributes for building components like walls, slabs, foundations, roofs and rooms. Additional settings can be made with the detailed object and attribute dialogues. With just one click, users get a better overview and modifications can be done faster than before. Furthermore, it’s also possible to modify multiple objects conveniently at the same time.
Views and Sections
Improved teamwork for Architects and Engineers
In Allplan Engineering 2019, new views and sections are now available for reinforcement detailing. With this development, write-access to the building model is no longer required when detailing reinforcement, bringing with it a number of benefits. For example, whilst architects may have write access to all building components, reinforcement detailers can be given write access for the placement of reinforcement only, with read-only access to the building components. This prevents unintentional modifications whilst working on shared models enhancing teamwork across disciplines. With the new views and sections it’s also possible to copy reinforcement including sections and labeling from one location to others.
Level and Plane Manager
Intuitive Levels and Planes Management
In Allplan Engineering 2019 the level and plane management is optimized and a new Floor Manager palette is introduced. The new palette makes the creation and modification of floors and levels much more convenient. Floors can be selected, and names or elevations adjusted easily. Building components such as walls, slabs or columns can now be linked to any polygonized or free-form surface. Extensive direct object modification capabilities ensure efficient workflows under real-world conditions. To reduce further your workload, changes to levels can be automatically reflected in the project structure.
Recurring tasks are completed efficiently
Creating your own parametric objects, using PythonParts, is straightforward with Allplan Engineering 2018. Combine basic building elements such as columns, beams and foundations from the Allplan Engineering library to form individual groups for use in your model.
Convenient reinforcement of complex structures in 3D
With Allplan Engineering 2018, you can now conveniently, rapidly and flexibly generate a 3D model of the reinforcement of double-curved structures with varying cross sections, such as for bridge structures. The reinforcement is defined in different cross sections and the transitions between the cross sections are described with different paths. In addition, various rules can be stored, such as how the reinforcement joints are to be designed. Using this information, Allplan Engineering 2018 generates the 3D reinforcement automatically.
3D Modeling without compromise
A multitude of optimizations in 3D modeling allows you to implement your visions without compromise: simply, flexibly and with the highest level of precision. These new features include multiple modification of the format properties for free formed 3D objects, the shell tool and “B-spline” curves for easier and more flexible creation of curved shapes.

With the combination of Allplan Engineering 2018 and the BIM platform Allplan Bimplus, you can easily handle the exchange of thousands of pieces of information in BIM projects. This makes you more flexible in dealing with information and improves data exchange.
Simplified collaboration via Allplan Share
With the Allplan Share option and Allplan Engineering 2018, you can benefit from direct collaboration with project partners with the same Allplan data. Allplan Share is based on the BIM platform Allplan Bimplus and offers you additional functions, such as Model Viewer, Task Board and revision control. You can reduce your administrative effort and save yourself the acquisition and maintenance of a local server.

With Allplan Engineering 2018, data transfer is done in one step at the push of a button with the structural analysis software SCIA Engineer. There is no longer an export and import of supporting structural models. The direct connection to SCIA Engineer simplifies the interaction between construction and structural analysis considerably, thus simplifying collaboration in the engineering office.

Optimized workflow for steel profiles
To make orientation easier and to speed up your workflow when working with steel profiles, the Steel Profile library was enhanced with profiles from several European suppliers and restructured accordingly. Moreover, additional attributes were added and standardized color settings, area styles, lines, and layers were created. You can now find the 2D and 3D profiles in a single location.
Numerous enhancements for international project work
For work on international projects, the following new features have been added: The new “Norme Française” (NF EN) was integrated for France. For projects in Brazil, the diameter and arc length can now be labeled in the bending pin representation. Moreover, leaders can also be shown with dashed lines in accordance with DIN EN ISO 3766. The imperial measurement system was made available throughout the program.
Filter functionality for drawing files
Easier handling of the building model
With the new filter function for drawing files, the building model is now even easier to handle. You can activate the entire 3D model in an animation window and hide the drawing files that you do not need in the outline. In this way, you can gain an overview of the entire structure in the animation view, without too many components being superimposed on each other during editing and so making everything unclear.
Reinforcement along a path
Quickly and easily reinforce individual components
To allow you to position reinforcement quickly and easily, the “Extrude reinforcement along path” function was introduced. You position the corresponding reinforcement elements such as stirrups and longitudinal reinforcement in a cross-section, then select the desired path for their routing, and Allplan then automatically generates the reinforcement. In the process, stirrups are rotated and additional stirrup areas, splices, contours, and overhangs are taken into account. This saves an enormous amount of time, especially in the 3D reinforcement of individual components.
Parasolid® modeling kernel
Convenient modeling and design creation
Due to the integrated Parasolid® modeling kernel, a large number of new options are now available. As a result, 3D solids without polygonization can be modified simply and precisely. The system allows the editing of control points, straight or curved edges and the surfaces of 3D elements. The Parasolid-based 3D solids can be converted into user-defined free-form components. These user-defined components can be modified in flexible and simple ways with the usual modifications for 3D solids, such as Boolean operations or point modification. Also the representation in plan view mode can be defined and modified.
Improved productivity through automated work processes
Complex, geometrically demanding building projects call for powerful and flexible tools that are easy to use. One tool that fulfills these demands are object based parametric PythonParts. You can also use the Python API to create new functions and objects in Allplan, including reinforcement, if required. The PythonParts can be adjusted with just a few clicks using Palettes and Handles. Additionally, you can automate recurrent tasks. In this way, you can improve productivity, avoid design errors, and support the BIM working method.
Improved exchange of free-form geometries in BIM projects
To ensure a problem-free data transfer between design partners, Allplan Engineering 2017 provides a large number of different interfaces that are constantly upgraded and updated. The focus is on the exchange of 3D volume and surface data (NURBS), which is important for BIM projects. You can now also exchange free-form geometries without polygonization in the following formats: DWG, DXF, DGN (Import) and Rhino. In addition, it is also possible to export BIM models in the IFC4 format. These optimizations support the interaction with other software products and improve the data quality involved in information transfers.
Quicker data transfer with Workgroup Online
The Workgroup Online function of the Allplan Workgroup Manager makes it possible to work together on the Allplan model regardless of your location. In the process, Allplan project data is exchanged via the Internet. A new compression process was introduced to reduce the transfer time for large volumes of data by an average of 75%. In certain cases, even up to 90%. In this way, you can work on your projects online much quicker.
Efficient task management for interdisciplinary cooperation
The Task Board in Allplan Engineering 2017 is directly connected to the open BIM platform, Allplan Bimplus. With Allplan Bimplus, you can collate, view, analyze, and share model data from Allplan and other openBIM solutions. Allplan Bimplus and the Allplan Task Board make it possible for interdisciplinary teams to communicate in real time. Linking specific tasks to objects makes it easier to exchange information and accelerates the coordination process. All the users have an overview of their open tasks at all times.
Imperial units and new language
To survive as an engineer in the international market, you need software that meets the specific requirements of the corresponding country (e.g. in terms of units of measure). If you are working with customers in the United States, for example, you must be able to draw and dimension your designs in imperial units. In international projects, it is also important to be able to respond to requirements for different units in other countries. These imperial units have now been integrated with Allplan Engineering 2016, so you can now also easily work with feet and inches, enhancing your international options. Allplan Engineering 2016 is also the first Allplan version provided with a Chinese-language user interface.
Optimized workflow with multi-display support
The new multi-display support function in Allplan Engineering 2016 allows you to arrange design viewports on several screens. This enables users to position the model you are currently editing on the main screen, while positioning design viewports such as sections, views and animations on other screens. The function "Section Along Any Path" for geometrically-correct determination of sections – not just along straight lines, but also along arcs, clothoids and splines - is now fully associative. This means that when a component is modified, the already positioned "Section Along Any Path" is now updated automatically. This improves your workflow in terms of speed and error elimination.
Adapt reinforcement quickly and easily
In Allplan Engineering 2016, the direct modification of placements has been improved so they are now easy to divide and change. Parameters such as bar diameter, number of pieces or spacing are edited directly in the placement. An intuitive, time-saving function for optimal work processes. At the same time the workspace remains clear and tidy, because you no longer need an additional dialog box.
New Object Navigator for maximum clarity
The new Object Navigator provides a compact, clear representation of all components of a virtual building model with targeted visibility control of elements or element groups and easy-to-use modification options for element information. The zoom function allows you to focus quickly on elements or element groups. Depending on the task and perspective on the model, you can restructure elements in the Object Navigator. The result is a significantly improved model and greater design quality.
