The new features in Allplan 2017 range from central task management and a wide range of enhancements in the area of modeling, plan generation and automation right through to detailed improvements that make Allplan 2017 more stable and user-friendly than ever before.
In Allplan release 2017-1, the user friendliness and transparency of the Task Board have been improved and planning reliability increased. 3D modeling with user-defined architectural elements is now even more efficient thanks to a number of enhancements.
In addition, the options for IFC4 export have been expanded, increasing both planning quality and work efficiency. For engineering, the range of screw coupler catalogs has been increased. These additional systems shorten the planning process in Allplan and help to avoid errors.

Task Board for Efficient Task Management
One central challenge involved in working with the BIM method is to allocate the various tasks clearly to all the project participants and then to track them. The task management should be as quick and as convenient as possible for both you and your design partners. The Task Board was introduced in Allplan 2017 for this purpose. The Task Board is directly connected to the open BIM platform, bim+. With bim+, you can collate, view, analyze, and share model data from Allplan and other OpenBIM solutions. The BIM Coordinator, for example, may detect unclear situations or design errors thanks to a visual check and can assign any problem to an editor. During the interaction between bim+ and Allplan, any new to-dos are immediately displayed on both sides. When the task is complete, the status is set to “Done” and the modified model is uploaded to bim+ again. All the project participants then immediately have access to the new design status.
With this Allplan release 2017-1, quality and stability have been improved further. The Allplan tool for efficient task management, the Task Board, is now even easier to use: The task details are clearly displayed and fewer work steps are now needed to process tasks. Role-based processing options increase planning reliability. They restrict access to the individual work steps “Create Task,” “Edit Task,” and “Close Task” and therefore prevent unwanted changes by unauthorized Task Board users.
Collision Check via bim+
To detect design errors at a very early stage, you can perform a collision check with bim+, such as between the partial models of the architects, structural designers, and building service providers. In the interaction between bim+ and Allplan, the tasks for eliminating collisions are delegated efficiently to the responsible editor via the Task Board. As soon as a new design status is available, it can be documented as a new revision with a traceable history.
Data Exchange without Any Stumbling Blocks
To ensure a problem-free data transfer between design partners, Allplan provides a large number of different interfaces that are constantly being upgraded and updated. In the 2017 version, the focus was on the exchange of 3D volume and surface data (NURBS), which is important for BIM projects. You can now also exchange free-form geometries without polygonization in the formats AutoCAD DWG/DXF, MicroStation DGN (Import) and Rhino. In addition, it is also possible to export BIM models in the IFC4 format. These optimizations support the interaction with other software products and improve the data quality involved in information transfers.
In Allplan release 2017-1, the IFC4 export has been enhanced to increase planning quality: Finish specifications, 2D elements and labels can now be exported via IFC4 interface without a loss of quality, and the global Allplan project settings are also transferred during the export. The transfer of models from Allplan to the structural analysis software SCIA Engineer is now far easier and only requires a single work step.
Improved performance of Workgroup Online
The Workgroup Online function of Allplan Workgroup Manager enables efficient work on a location-independent basis. All Allplan project data is exchanged via the internet. To reduce the transfer time for large volumes of data, a new compression method has been introduced in Allplan Architecture 2017, which reduces the data volume and thus the transmission time by 75 percent on average. In individual cases, even reductions of up to 90 percent are possible. You can therefore work considerably faster on your projects online.

PythonParts – Parametric Objects for Excellent Productivity
Complex, geometrically demanding building projects call for powerful and flexible tools that are easy to use. The differences from country to country also demand extensive adjustment possibilities. One tool that fulfills these demands is PythonParts – parametric objects on the basis of the Python script language. You can use the Python API programming interface to access Allplan functionalities and to create new functions and objects, including reinforcements, if required. The PythonParts have a user interface with properties palettes, handles, and individual work processes, and can be adjusted with just a few clicks. In addition, you can use Python API to automate recurring work steps. In this way, you can improve productivity, avoid design errors, and support the BIM working method.

Several Upgrades in the Field of 3D Modeling
Due to the integrated parasolid modeling kernel, a large number of new options are now available to you. For example, 3D solids without any previous polygonization can be modified simply and precisely. The system allows the editing of random points, straight or curved edges and the surfaces of 3D elements. In addition, the user-friendliness and the workflows in 3D modeling have been optimized at various points.
As of Allplan release 2017-1, you can now assign favorite hatchings, line styles and area styles to user-defined architectural elements for display. The properties of one user-defined architectural element can be easily and quickly transferred to another using the pipette function.
User-Defined Free-Form Components Now Even More Flexible
Parasolid-based 3D solids can now be converted into user-defined free-form components (quantity solids). These user-defined components can be modified in flexible and simple ways with the usual modifications such as Boolean operations or point modification. It is even possible to easily define and adjust the outline presentation.
Enormous Time Savings thanks to “Extrude reinforcement along path"
To allow you to position reinforcements quickly and easily, the “Extrude reinforcement along path” function was introduced. You position the corresponding reinforcement elements such as stirrups and longitudinal reinforcements in a cross-section, then select the desired path for their routing, and Allplan then automatically generates the reinforcement. In the process, stirrups are rotated and additional stirrup areas, splices, contours, and overhangs are taken into account. This saves an enormous amount of time, especially in the 3D reinforcement of individual components.
Screw couplers are absolutely essential for placing reinforcement bars in tight spaces. The client often dictates which screw coupler system needs to be used. If the required system is not included in the system, manual postprocessing work is necessary. With Allplan release 2017-1, the new Ancotech BARON-C and SAH SAS 670/800 catalogs have been added to the screw couplers that already existed in the system. You save time and increase planning quality thanks to the large selection of providers in Allplan, which is constantly being increased.
Clearer Overview When Working with the Building Model
The building model is now even easier to handle, thanks to the new filter function for partial images. You can activate the entire 3D model in an animation window and hide the partial images that you do not need in the outline. In this way, you can gain an overview of the entire structure in the animation view, without too many components being superimposed on each other during editing and so making everything unclear.
Up-To-Date Supplements for International Project Work
The following new features have been added for work on international projects: The new “Norme Française” (NF EN) was integrated for France. For projects in Brazil, the diameter and arc length can now be labeled in the bending roller presentation. Moreover, leaders can also be shown with dashed lines in accordance with DIN EN ISO 3766. Finally, the measuring units feet and inches are now available throughout.
Steel profile library restructured and updated
To make your orientation easier and to speed up your workflow when working with steel profiles, the Steel Profile library was supplemented with lacking profiles according to current supplier programs, and restructured. Moreover, additional attributes were added and standardized color settings, area styles, lines, and layers were created. You can now find the 2D and 3D profiles in a single location.
