Release Notes for Allplan 2020-1

Allplan 2020-1 for architects and engineers features improved stability and optimized performance. There are also various detailed improvements, including visual scripting, working with views and sections and importing data in UTM coordinates.

Allplan Bridge is the powerful solution for four-dimensional parametric modeling and structural analysis of bridges. The new version Allplan Bridge 2020-1 contains additional important functions for calculating live loads and influence lines as well as code-based design and the exchange of analytical models.


We edited and corrected various messages of Quality Reporter. As a result, Allplan is more stable and reliable.

Allplan runs faster due to various means.


Allplan Setup presents more countries for selection; the names are in accordance with the ISO codes.

Note: Workgroup online will no longer be available in Allplan 2021 and later. Instead, you can purchase Allplan Share, which has been available since Allplan 2018.

User interface


You can copy elements from your own wizards without problems.

Properties palette

Allplan marks the handle of the starting point or endpoint of a selected 3D line when you click the point’s coordinates in the Properties palette.



Allplan supports spaces in the path name when you export XCA files to Excel by means of “Export Quantity Data”.

Allplan Share

Allplan Share projects are visible in the library; you can save library elements in these projects.

When you copy an Allplan Share project to the local computer or from the local computer to Bimplus, the project attributes will be updated correctly.

IFC interface

Allplan 2020 supports configuration files (*.cfg) from earlier versions.

IFC import and IFC export provide a favorite for Revit.

IFC4 import of components (for example, columns) linked with planes runs smoothly.

IFC4 import of stairs runs smoothly.

Allplan imports downstand beams correctly; length and thickness are correct.

IFC export filters by IFC ObjectType. Therefore, the “Proxy” filter is available for export too. Existing favorites (Orca, G&W) take this into account.

IFC export of stories supports the new “Story” filter, which is off by default.

Basic features


Reports list user-defined layout attributes, even if you use the reports in the building structure or “Open on a project-specific basis” dialog box.

To exchange data with PHPP (Passive House Planning Package) via the IFC interface, you can use the “Passive house” attribute group that contains the 39 most important attributes. You can find this new attribute group in the “Project Settings” - “Project attributes” area.

Open on a project-specific basis: drawing files, layouts

After you have closed layout editor, drawing files with links open more quickly.

Building structure

Selecting a drawing file in the building structure also selects the structural level that contains this drawing file.

Layout editor

Use the “Label” tool to create a label style that analyzes the drawing files in the layout. This label style works correctly in the layout.

When you select the “Dimension line text” option in the “Dimension Line, Label” tool while labeling bar reinforcement in views and sections, this additional text is visible in layouts again.

A drawing file that contains views and sections with axis grids that were copied from another drawing file is immediately visible in the layout.


A drawing file includes two XRefs. The XRef inserted first can be selected again.


You can find the “Replace Label Style” tool on the shortcut menu of appropriate label styles only.

Label styles that you created yourself label openings correctly: The distance between the prefix and the text does not change when you switch reference scales.


When you create associative dimension lines, you can enter up to 16 characters for “Dimension text prefix” and “Dimension text suffix” in the “Dimension Line” dialog box or Properties palette.

You can not only delete dimension line points from associative dimensioning of openings but also undo the deletion. Allplan processes the sill heights and opening heights correctly.

Associative dimensioning of the opening height is correct when you dimension an opening with a facing in a single-layer wall. Allplan considers the facing in accordance with the reference point.

Associative dimensioning of an opening with a smart symbol or SmartPart is correct when the reference point is a point where the smart symbol or SmartPart intersects the opening element.



The “Elevation Point” tool labels a wall opening correctly, even if the opening contains a smart symbol.


Changing the name of a room no longer changes the names of finish specifications.

When you apply the “Modify Attributes” tool while Bimplus property sets are active, Allplan neither removes the room finish nor displays a message anymore.

Stair modeler

The single-flight stair adopts the distance of the starting step, even if you enter this distance directly in the box of the starting step.


The “Restore 3D View” tool no longer deletes labels or label styles when it detects problematic objects.


The “Engineering” attribute group provides the new “Superimposed load” attribute.



After having exported the “Finish floors.rdlc”, “Finish ceilings.rdlc”, and “Finish vertical surfaces.rdlc” reports to Excel, you can change these reports in Excel and reimport them to Allplan.

Views and sections

You can use the new “Move Linked” tool to move views and sections and their model data without changing their position relative to each other.

When you create views and sections from models with large coordinates, the positions of views and sections do not change, even if you later select the “Optimize working with large coordinates” option in the “General” area of the “Options - Desktop environment”.

Views and sections correctly display smart symbols with different foils that depend on the drawing type.

The layer selected in the format properties no longer changes when you create views and sections with gridlines.

When you change the color of a bar, the new color is immediately visible in views and sections and in layouts.


Bar reinforcement

The “Place Bar Shape” - “Linear placement” tool uses the correct viewing direction for placing 2D reinforcement.

If you do not place 2D reinforcement immediately after you have created the bending shape, you can still change the diameter afterward.

Allplan displays placements with the format properties defined in the “Options”.

The “Bar schedule - bending shapes” legend displays bending shapes correctly.

Multiple modifications of a section with reinforcement on a hidden, frozen layer no longer affect the placement display mode when you change the reinforcement layer back to modifiable.

Copied bars placed per meter can be placed multiple times.

Allplan no longer deletes reinforcement that is not selected.

When you change the placement display mode later, the layout displays everything correctly.

The “Sweep Bars Along Path” tool creates reinforcement correctly.

The “Sweep Bars Along Path” tool places spacers correctly.

When you use the “Extrude Bars Along Path” tool to place bars that have already been placed, nonassociative legends and reports output the correct number of pieces.

Schemas correctly calculate segment lengths of bar shapes created with “Convert, Match Elements”.

The “Convert, Match Elements” tool correctly converts segments of circles to bar shapes.

Mesh reinforcement

Layouts display single bars of meshes again.

Allplan Bridge


Due to the additional implementations the user interface was enhanced.

Traffic Loads

A new task area for interactively and graphically defining traffic lanes based on the user-defined structure / cross-section (in 2D or 3D) was provided. Further, you can automatically create the lanes according to standard.

A new task area for defining load trains and for loading predefined load trains according to standard was provided.
A new tab was added in the menu Superpositions for performing an interactive, schematic evaluation and superposition of traffic loads (of the defined load trains and lanes).

A new calculation option for automatically calculating the influence lines of defined traffic load superpositions was added.

Design Code Checks

A new task area for performing various design code checks was provided including the following tasks:

  • ULSDESIGN: Perform the reinforcement design for the ULS for bending + normal force
  • ULSCHECK: Perform the check in the ULS for bending + normal force
  • LINSTRESS: Perform a linear normal stress check in the SLS

Respective new tasks for creating design reports (incl. graphical illustrations) in MS-Word format for each of the mentioned checks above are provided (i.e. DESIGNREPORT, CHECKREPORT, LINSTRESSREPORT).


A new task REMOVAL was implemented for deactivating temporary structural elements (such as auxiliary supports), which automatically calculates the redistribution of forces on the remaining static system.

A new task LOADREF was implemented for considering moving loads during the construction (e.g. form traveller) by referencing existing load cases without having to define them again.


New tabs and task areas where added for displaying the results of influence lines and design code checks.

A new tab was added to graphically display the load definitions of defined load cases (load visualisation).


A dialogue for selectively importing material from the Bimplus database was provided.

Cross sections

A new tool for drawing a parametric line parallel between two other lines with its position defined by a relative factor was implemented.


A new method for defining tendons by tangent intersection points plus radius was developed.


The calculation of creep, shrinkage and relaxation according to AASHTO LRFD was implemented.

View Options

Within the view of the 3D-model additional options are available for displaying only certain parts of the structure which can interactively be defined by the user by using the “isolation box” or the “hide objects” functionalities.


The analysis model can now be uploaded to Bimplus to exchange it with other connected applications.


The example Getting Stared and the corresponding document was revised and enhanced regarding the new functionalities.

Visual scripting

We enhanced the user interface and program in various places.

Allplan International

When you open a project that was created with a different country setting, Allplan displays a message telling you that you can change the country setting and replace the resources. After you have confirmed this message, Allplan opens the project and you can work on it.
